SALT LAKE CITY (ABC4) — Wanda Barzee, the woman convicted of kidnapping then 14-year-old Elizabeth Smart with her husband in 2002, was arrested and booked into jail on Thursday, according to court records.
On May 1, Barzee, 79, was booked into jail for allegedly violating Sex Offender Registry requirements by visiting parks in Salt Lake City. Brent Weisberg, spokesperson for the Salt Lake City Police Department, said detectives arrested her at her home without incident.
Documents say she told police she went to Liberty Park to feed ducks in early April because “she was commanded to by the Lord.” Barzee also allegedly admitted to visiting Sugarhouse Park.
Barzee became a registered sex offender after she was convicted for her involvement in the kidnapping and rape of Smart. She served 15 years in prison before being released in 2018.
At the time of her release, Elizabeth Smart asked the Utah Board of Pardons and Parole not to release her, saying she was a danger, but officials said Barzee had served her sentence and there was nothing to keep her in prison. She was on probation for five years after her release and was required to participate in a mental health program.
According to Utah law, registered child sex offenders are prohibited from going to areas where children congregate — such as parks and schools. Offenders convicted of violating this law are subject to a class A misdemeanor charge, which can be punished with up to a year in jail and a $2,500 fine.
Barzee was booked in the Salt Lake County Jail and has since been released.
Elizabeth was abducted very close to the Provo Police Department.

..the Provo Police Department has pushed its release of the expanded Hamblin files back to May 5th, the Utah County Sheriffs Office has also claimed extraordinary circumstances a second time to push back the release of requested documents for another 30 days. In Davis County, the vast majority of GRAMA requests have been ignored altogether.
That records release deadline is Monday, so we will show up SUNDAY and let the police know that UTAH citizens & friends demand to see the records, to better get to the truth out about these issues!

There are many ideas going around about what REALLY happened since the headlines announced she died by suicide on April 25, 2025:
That she overdosed out of despair for various recent losses in her adult life.
That she overdosed out of despair caused by child abuse before and during the Epstein conspiracy, and subsequent media pressure and battering. Both of these can be reflected in the statement released above by her family.
That she was “suicided,” that is, she was murdered and it was made to look like a suicide.
That the whole thing is a fake, and she has in fact been put into protective custody (which implies a larger, positive investigation underway behind the scenes).
Thank you to The Insight Foundation for this calendar, to help raise awareness of what survivors can be reacting to on certain dates (even if they are not aware of traumatic anniversaries).
For example, I was born on April 21st…during a full moon. 🤔😢
Activists can also compare the calendar to world events to look for Satanic-timed themes and call out patterns that seem suspect.
Virginia was announced to have died on April 25th, 2025. When I looked up the Corpus de Baah, I found some pretty creepy references in an article titled “Seeing Blindness.” Was this a message to those who would have wanted her destroyed, or just a very dark coincidence?
I don’t know what happened to Virginia, but survivors of sexual abuse and other types of conspiracies everywhere can relate to the despair of violation of one’s soul caused by abuse by an organization of humans. I for one am mourning her loss, and I am not alone (if indeed she is dead!). I wish I could have known and supported her. What this has reminded me, is that all survivors need to know and support each other as best as we can, while we are still alive/around. ❤️🩹
Part of Virginia’s written story was sent to me recently in a pdf/book form, and I’m reading it now. It looks like something from her legal case, titled “Exhibit B.” So far it’s heartbreaking, and has evoked memories of my own forced sex slave-trafficking (I never saw a penny from these “tricks,” which took place while I was in an altered state of consciousness, in my “sexual team” parts torture-installed during MK-ULTRA), specifically that took place in the downtown Seattle/International District/University of Washington area, between the ages eighteen to age twenty-two.
